Millinery by Miriam creates one-of-a-kind hats and headpieces out of salvaged and reclaimed materials. Each piece is completely unique and hand-crafted using classic millinery methods.

I rescue old and out-of-date hats from thrift stores, friends, and free-boxes. I dismantle, wash and re-block these hats, while salvaging the wires, ribbons, and linings. Then, I  re-adorn them using reclaimed materials: scraps of fabric that are too small to be useful for anything else, old vintage jewelry, and other odds and ends. My day job in Seattle-area costume shops gives me access to beautiful, distinctive fabric pieces, and I also look in thrift stores and yard sales for materials and inspiration. I use reclaimed materials as much as possible, and only add new materials when the quality of the item would be compromised or vintage items cannot be found.
